1.Climate and terrain

    The four seasons of the eastern area of China near Shanghai are distinct, with sultry summers and relatively cold winters. At the coldest, temperatures will drop to as low as negative 5 to 7°C (41 to 45°F); therefore, measures against the cold are necessary for plays in January and February. Contrastingly, in the hottest months of July and August, temperatures will rise to as high as 35 to 37°C (95 to 99°F). From June onwards, temperatures generally exceed 30°C (86°F) on sunny days, and anti-heat measures become necessary. This area has a rainy season from mid-June to early-July, so be sure to pack rain gear.

    This area is situated on the delta of the Yangtze river, making the terrain extremely flat. Most of the golf courses around this area utilize the flat landscape and abundant water to make strategic courses with multiple water hazards.

2 Golf courses and play

    Over the last few years, the number of golf course in the vicinity of Shanghai, where one can make day-trips, has risen to around 30. In the past, players were primarily foreigners, such as Taiwanese, Japanese and Korean, but in more recent times, the number of domestic participants has increased exponentially.
    Currently, on weekends, the golf courses close to the center of Shanghai are extremely crowded, and more and more locations are requiring an accompanying member. Therefore, in order to play as a visitor, reservations must be made in advance. Most correspondences are done in Mandarin.

    As a general rule, plays are 18-hole through plays. Most recently, most golf courses provide carts. Rental shoes and rental clubs are available at most courses, however, it would be best not to expect very high qualities.
